Artist Statement:
For my abstract works, I invest a significant amount of time in choosing color combinations and experimenting with various mediums. My process is fluid and responsive; sometimes I'll paint to the rhythm of music, other times I'll start each session without a preconceived plan. I put a paintbrush, knife, pen, or marker to the canvas, making marks haphazardly, reacting intuitively to what I see in front of me.
The moment-by-moment manipulation of paint—scraping it off and reapplying, gradually reveals the essence of the piece. It often captures a feeling, an experience, or a fleeting moment that profoundly impacted me. At this stage, I step back and thoughtfully fine-tune the piece, making the necessary changes to complete the image. Whether it takes minutes, hours, days, or even months, eventually, I recognize the moment when the canvas no longer seeks more from me, and the piece is complete.

As for selecting subject matter for my landscapes, it’s often an instinctual decision influenced by light, colors, or an evocative feeling. I draw inspiration from places that have etched themselves into my memory. Whether it's a rugged coastline, a tranquil forest, rural scene, or an expansive sky, the natural world provides a boundless source of wonder and reflection for me. Each piece, whether abstract, landscape, or still life is a testament to a moment in time, capturing an essence that words often fail to convey.

This is my world, my canvas, my sanctuary where the unpredictable nature of life can be transformed into something tangibly profound. -Peggy

About the artist:

Casey-Mason, born in Plymouth, Mass., was exposed to the language of painterly skills by studying the works of Monet, Pissarro, Sisley, and Morisot, which she appreciated and learned from. As a self- taught artist, her early impressionistic works many painted en plein-air from 1995 to 2010, portrayed landscapes, farms, nature, marine paintings, rural scenes, and still lifes.

In 2002, she attended her first workshop in Monet's gardens, which inspired her dream to live in France. After attending her second workshop in the south of France, she sold her home in the U.S. and left her corporate job to move to the French countryside. The landscape that had inspired her became her life, and she created light-filled flower and vegetable gardens which became the main focus of her many new paintings.

During these years, she discovered the works of Gerhard Richter, Joan Mitchell, Jackson Pollock and others whose use of colors, expressive brushstrokes, intuition, and individuality stirred her imagination and fueled her passion for art making into a new direction. Casey-Mason adopted the expressionist approach, which had dominated her art making for ten years, celebrating her freedom, love of color, and wonder on her canvases through abstractions that are never far from the rhythms of nature and life experiences. The hues sit well and resonate with intuitive marks.

Casey-Mason now resides in the U.S. Her landscapes and abstracts have found homes in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Minnesota, California, Georgia, North Carolina and abroad-Australia, Mexico, France and England.

Artist message:

July 2024:

Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you stay for awhile. Although I’ve painted for 40 plus years, I”m still hoping someday I’ll get it right but in the meantime I’m having fun experimenting and challenging myself working between two genres, abstract and traditional landscape painting, while remaining true to myself. You see I’ve never been one to follow the crowd or be the same person left over from yesterday. I thrive on change. As Deepak Chopra said, “change is the fertile ground for pure creativity”…if I didn’t embrace change I’d be bored stiff. Hence, my diversified artwork portfolio. Enjoy!
